An excellent short story about an intelligent and heroic burro. Nor were they about heroic people. In fact, they were actually like film noir vignettes that just happen to be set in the southwest and South America. But the cumulative effect of these "other stories" was quite misogynistic. Women are the source of all men's trouble. They're an inexplicable, separate species that can be faithful one day and faithless the next. That was the theme uniting all the stories.
