History Hub presents a brief biography of Alex Trebek from beginning to end, whose remarkable story impacts our lives even today. On the 30th of January, 1882, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York. His father was James Roosevelt, an alumnus of Union College and Harvard Law School. His mother is Sara Delano, born in the Delano Estate in New York, and James Roosevelt’s second wife. During his childhood, Franklin Roosevelt often traveled to Europe with his parents. In 1887, his father brought him to the White House to meet with President Grover Cleveland. The president made an interesting statement, telling Roosevelt that he wishes that he would never become the president of the United States. Roosevelt spent a lot of his time surrounded by adults, which helped him build up the confidence and appeal that would prove useful in his future political career. However, when his parents sent him away to Groton School, Roosevelt found himself having trouble socializing with people around his age. His bitter memories at Groton prompted Roosevelt to transfer and eventually become a pioneer at Harvard. There, Roosevelt studied subjects that would be useful in his political careers, such as government, economics, English, and public speaking. During his late college years, Roosevelt met and fell in love with Eleanor Roosevelt, a distant cousin he had first met at a family Christmas celebration in 1898. A year before his graduation at Harvard, he asked Eleanor to marry him.In 1933, Roosevelt became the president of the United States. He immediately made a remarkable impression in the White House with the way he ran his administration. He was re-elected for his second term as the president in 1937. During this time, the United States had barely made its way out of the Great Depression. There was also a lot of hostility during this period because of rising tensions between Germany, Italy, and Japan. Roosevelt ran for the third time in 1940 because he believed that the country needed consistent leadership to face what may turn into another great crisis in under three decades. The Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which prompted Roosevelt to declare war. On April 12, 1945, Franklin Delano Roosevelt died due to a massive cerebral hemorrhage.Discover in this short yet concise biography the remarkable story of a life who impacted future generations.
